Srey Na* arrived into our care in August 2017 and has just been successfully reintegrated! This is such a massive feat for a young survivor and something we intentionally celebrate to honour their journey towards complete healing and freedom. We were able to have a big party to celebrate her life and journey and gift her with the things she will need to be successful in her next season of life – clothes, a school uniform, a bicycle, and a bag of rice!
While in our care she overcame great hurdles, successfully completing 2 grades and always being a big help to the housemothers and other girls in the home. When she first arrived she easily grew angry and was unable to handle or cope with her emotions due to trauma and today possesses the tools to move through her emotions in a healthy manner and has great self awareness. Her court case has also been closed and her perpetrator has successfully been placed in jail, which is a huge victory for her life, freedom, and sense of peace and justice!
She has reintegrated back to her community, which has been deemed safe by our team who assesses every home to ensure safety and suitability standards are met. She will be living with her father who is able to provide for her and will be very near to her grandmother, who she has a very close relationship with. She will continue her studies and continue moving towards her dream of someday becoming a teacher!
Our social workers and counsellors will continue walking alongside her and her family for up to 3 years, and we’ll provide support for her schooling ensuring she has everything she needs to be successful and grow into a healthy, flourishing young woman! We’re so thankful for how far she has come and for the hope that exists before her today. It’s such a victory to see perpetrators in jail and survivors successfully reintegrated and we could never accomplish this without the support of hearts like you.
