My name is Sopheap*, and I’m a 11 year old survivor.
I came into the care of the SHE Rescue Home at just 10 years old after being severely exploited. A court case has been opened however, my perpetrator remains on the run today. I have not yet had proper schooling as I do not have a birth certificate. My favourite color is green, I love to eat chicken and vegetables, and my favourite activity is to play with play-dough! I’m looking forward to being able to return to school now that I’m safe and in the care of the home.
My parents are divorced and both remarried. My mom is presently living in Thailand with her husband, and I’m not certain where my father is. I have one half sister, one older brother, one younger brother, and was living with them and my grandparents at the time of my exploitation. My grandparents live on a plot of land they’re renting, and care for one other boy who is younger than me as well.
My social workers are working with my family to ensure there are opportunities for financial sustainability and basic child care protection knowledge so I may reintegrate back with my grandparents. I will begin my studies while in the care of the SHE Rescue Home and someday dream of growing up to become an English teacher.
