I arrived into the care of the SHE Rescue Home at 11 years old following my sexual exploitation that occurred within my community. Due to violence in my household, I ran away and was sexually exploited as a result. My perpetrators have been arrested and there is an ongoing court case.
My parents are Vietnamese and divorced and at the time of my exploitation I was living with friends. My mother has remarried and works in a massage parlor which is not a safe environment for me to be around, and recently, my mother ran away and has not been located. I have no contact information for her nor does my social worker, who is working to mediate the situation.
I do not have a birth certificate or any proper documentation that would allow for me to attend school, however, my social worker is working to get the necessary paperwork in order for me to move forward and enroll. In the meantime, I am eager and excited to begin classes with the teacher in the home while my social worker works to locate my family. Once my court case is completed and my perpetrators prosecuted, my social worker will pursue foster care options if reintegration with my family is not an option.
