My name is Davy*, and I’m a 14 year old survivor.
I am 14 years old, in grade 7, and a survivor. My sexual exploitation occurred within my community and was kept secret due to threats from my perpetrator who continually told me no one would ever believe me. Thankfully my family did believe me and there is currently an investigation open with the police. My favourite colour is pink, I love to play soccer, and someday I dream of growing up to become a school teacher!
My mother works as a farmer and has raised my 5 siblings and I on her own since my dads passing 6 years ago. At the time of my exploitation I was living with my mother and my younger brother, as all of my other siblings are older and living on their own. I used to frequently visit my sister who lived near to me, and it was on my walks home I would be exploited and assaulted.
Due to the proximity of my perpetrator to where my family lives, reintegration home is not a safe or viable option for me. Additionally, my school only offered classes until grade 9 and was very far from my home, which caused me to have to bike through a rainforest alone which was dangerous. My social workers will work with my family to ensure they’re safe in their community and will begin looking into long term care options that will provide me with care and a good education to equip me to fulfill my dream of someday becoming a teacher!
